It is reported by the BBC that the President of Gabon has passed away. (Although there was some confusion this morning as neither The Gabonese Govt or the Spanish clinic were sure.)
Apparently he was Africa's longest serving head of state, he was in power for 27 years.
Now being as he has been President for this long, how come I am only just hearing of him, not since 'Walid Jumblatt' has hearing a name filled me with such childish glee.
So farewell then Omar Bongo, or as the BBC put it just plain Mr Bongo.
Although I am hoping that his son the current Defence Minister gets the job.
Then he would be President Ali-Ben Bongo.
