Dr Wollaston, who admits she has little political experience, got 7,914 votes, local council leader Sara Randall-Johnson got 5,495 and Torbay mayor Nick Bye got 3,088.
The Tory majority is admittedly small (1,947 ), but if she can distance herself from the current incumbent Anthony 'you're just jealous' Steen and with Labours continuing downfall on her side, she should be well in with a shout at the next election.
I should imagine there is much shitting of selves in council chambers and Tory party offices up and down the land over this result.
I mean what's the point of all that cock-sucking, glad handing, rotary club meetings , kow-towing to local grandees and businessmen, fixing planning applications and general maneuvering and toadying.
If at the last minute they pull the brass ring away, just as you've almost got your slimy grasping fingers on it.

However as a caveat, I can't see this happening on any larger scale as it got the 'wrong' result, at least for the local party movers and shakers and unless 'Call Me Dave' orders them to, I can't see local parties volunteeering, after all the 'wrong' chap may win and we can't have that.
