Some of you may have read my posts on how I was almost killed to death by the Sunflower Seeds installation at the Tate Modern.
But was saved from almost, possibly, might have, small chance of, negligible risk of, being killed to death by our our wonderful Elf & Safety people.
Although in doing so they rendered the artist’s vision of his work and its meaning completely null and void. But hey, at least nobody was killed to death eh?
But wait there’s more (there has to be, right?)
New health scare over Tate Sunflower Seeds exhibition
The BBC has learned that the installation of 100 million porcelain "sunflower seeds" was made in China using paint containing lead.
Oh noes won’t somebody think of the children
‘The BBC has learned’ has it?
What, after being tipped off by some egregious H&S cock still trying to justify why they closed it down for some risible reason.
One of the most striking exhibitions at the Tate Modern for years is at the centre of a new health scare.
No it isn’t, you just made that up, there’s nothing scary about it. It’s just another example by The PTB to keep the serfs afeared for themselves and you in control as ‘We Know Best What Is Good For You’ See we are still protecting you all along, from stuff you didn’t even know about, aren’t we marvellous, vote for us or more importantly, pay for us.
So what has the potential MASS MURDERING Tate Modern have to say for itself
"The results showed that exposure to the dust during the period when the work could still be walked on was below the relevant workplace exposure limits.
So bollocks then.
Let’s have a word count on the article (214 words including the headline)
Scare x 2
Concerns x2
Risk x2
Health x3
Safety x2
Well played sir, I would struggle I think to do that, is there a special ‘How To Alarm The Public Over Trivia’ module in your staff training manual.
Please just fuck off and leave us alone.
You fools, don’t you realise the risk you’re taking
Addendum: “One of the most striking exhibitions at the Tate Modern for years” – Well it was briefly, now it’s pointless and just taking up space

I thought it was spelled "Elfin Safety" but never mind.
For sure, lead is a bit unhealthy, but only if you breathe it in or drink it over long periods, I don't think there is such a thing as acute lead poisoning. Seeing as our exposure to lead has been vastly reduced (fewer lead pipes, no lead in petrol) over the decades, I don't think there's too much to worry about from crunching across some silly lead-painted beans.
I'm sure you are right Mark, but the concept of Elfin Safety conjours up a mental picture of a nymphette in a hard hat and pixie boots. Which I would find hard to hate (always been a sucker for pixie boots, time they made a comeback)
Many moons ago I worked in the 'lead bay' at the local shipyard. What this facility did was manufacture shielding for the nuclear reactors/submarines the yard built and lead bricks used as ballast in all of the boats being built.
Scrap lead was melted down in huge open topped gas fired lead boilers. This was then poured into the moulds and cooled as slowly as possible with huge propane burners.
I wore a face mask and there was some seriously powerful ventilation. Not for the 'airborne lead' but all the shit that scrap lead has attached to it produced a concoction of 'alleged' pollutants and it stank.
Anyway I had a blood test when I went into the 'lead bay' and second after three months. Unsurprisingly the blood lead level had gone up. I was only there six months and the third blood test showed only a very slight almost negligible increase.
A follow up blood test three months after the end of my stint showed my blood lead level was back down to what it was before my six month holiday in the lead bay.
It's constant exposure to extremely large amounts of lead that is the problem but even this goes away if the person so affected simply stops handling lead.
As with most things health related the lead scare seems to be based on a grain of truth mixed in with fake science and topped off with the 'something must be done brigade' getting their oar in, with the cherry on the top being protecting trade and securing tax/customs revenue/fines for non-compliance.
This country is FUBAR, it really is.
Anyone daft enough to eat great quantities of the sunflower seeds ( the only way you could ingest enough lead to harm you ) is probably beyond the reach of any H&S staff....
@William - Christ that was a job and a half, thanks for the tale, splendid. It really does show the amount of egregious cock end jobsworths we have these days.
@Julia eat great quantities of the sunflower seeds porcelain sunflower seeds mind. I'm sure you'd die of an impacted colon before lead poisoning set in.
It's just another justification for the 'Told You We Knew Best' culture.
We must be protected from ourselves and those that would seek to harm us.
