So never mind 30 words or fewer and the upset and bad feeling it caused.
It appears it was an exercise in futility as well.
Because at 9:15 this morning all of us on Fixed Term Contracts were asked to assemble in the tea-room where we were told there were to be no contract extensions after all for anybody at my office (and also the competing offices in the pool)
So I need find myself another job by May 27th or find myself back signing on across the desk from the same people I’ve been working along side for the last 15 months. (At least I know how to work the system now)
Yes it was a Fixed Term Contract, so I should not be surprised, it had to end sometime, but it had been extended once and it’s not like unemployment is going down anytime soon.
Also, it has happened to me before and I’m sure will happen again, but at the moment it still feels a bit like this.

Very sorry indeed to hear it - though words will be little consolation if that picture illustrates how you feel - and all the best for the next few weeks.
Oooof! Sorry to hear that :(
"...or find myself back signing on across the desk from the same people I’ve been working along side for the last 15 months..."
Well, at least you are guaranteed respectful 'service'..?
Really sorry to hear about that. Hope you find something else soon.
Thanks all

I was actually in the odd position that I was signing on at the same office prior to taking up the contract.
A fact that I had to remind several 'collegues' of when they started in on the 'work shy' and 'lazy' and wondered if they "refered to me in the same way when I signed with them"
Hopefully it might remind them how precarious employment is out in 'the real world' however with some of the ex Benefits Agency Lifers , I doubt it
:-(
Bugger. Good luck to you in your quest, Neko-san.
Sorry to hear that. Good luck with finding new work.
Sorry to hear your bad news. Hope you find something, but things are tighter than a gnats arse out in the real world.
I've had a bit of a rollercoaster year so far. Selling stuff to do with cars means we got hit with the VAT rise and now high petrol prices will make things uncertain long-term.
Best of luck anyhow PC.
Interesting that Delphius says his business selling stuff was hit by the VAT rise.
This is exactly how VAT works - it clobbers businesses. It is not a tax which businesses can blithely "pass on" to the consumer (despite what the politicians want you to think).
Mark, being a small business I'm sure we'd find it hard to absorb the VAT cost and still be profitable. Hence the VAT rose and prices went up accordingly.
The thing with VAT though is its a wide-ranging tax and even this small rise means people pay a considerable amount more for stuff. What we saw was a month-long hiatus in January while people assessed how much more they'd have to spend to live.
Slowly things have improved, but the increased petrol prices will surely bite this year as well. They're tough times for traders.
The bad news is things look to be bad for a long time to come.
