But also a great name for your new band*

Not quite Marmite Cashews, but definitely up near the top. on my favourite snacks list.

They go great with lager. Red wine, not so much.

Caveat Emptor: Wasabi is Japanese Horseradish and they may be  a bit potent for some.

Available from Marks & Spencer’s

  1. Ah, M&S 'healthy' snacks range are actually quite tasty, unlike most others.

  2. There's a lot to be said for multiculturalism at the food counter (though I second the warning about the eye-watering properties of wasabi).

  4. I love the wasabi peas we've had. Must try to get some. I'll go out foraging later in the week.

  5. @Blue /shhhhhh you'll ruin my grant application

@Macheath: it's one of those Japanese food rites of passsage, they [the Japanese] love to see the Gaijin pop the whole little blob of green paste in their mouth. Apparently it's like being pepper sprayed.

However being a sophisticate I already knew the score in this regard. This did not protect me from the Sea Urchin though and now I know what evil tastes like.

  6. I get them from the Chinese supermarket, by a company called Khao Shong, from Thailand. Peanuts and brodbeans are also available, and are dirt cheap.

  7. ooooh Wasabi Peanuts, that I could go for.

    Do they do Wasabi cashews?

  8. I have been reliably informed by the cute wee chinese bird on the cash point, that we do not see the whole range in most shops here, including her own, so it may be worth dropping the firm a line, or asking around your local Far East supermarkets.

  10. Just ate half a pack of wasabi peas and without thinking wiped my eyes with my hand.

  11. Damn good film

I heartily concur. For those who haven't yet seen it, the film gets its title from a scene where the protagonist, Hubert Fiorentini, eats a whole serving of wasabi at a Japanese restaurant without flinching.

Fiorentini is played by Jean Reno - tough guy extraordinaire; I bet he really did it!

  12. It is a very good film and Jean Reno is very popular in Japan. 'Leon' is a favourite film.

He was also, when I was there the face of 'Pocari Sweat' the amusinlgy named [to us] sports drink

I can only find one of the tv ads but there were more and they were a little strange.
