The pitfalls of advancing age, Neko-san. Like my deservedly obscure Iron Chicken joke:
Q. Why did the Iron Chicken cross the road? A. To get to the gay bar on the other side.
I did anticipate that some people wouldn't be sufficiently up to speed with London rhyming slang to pick up the double entendre of "iron", but what I didn't expect was the near universal failure to clock the Iron Chicken allusion.
After all, everybody's familiar with Clangers, one of the bestest ever kids' TV programmes for grown-ups on the BBC.
They are. Aren't they? Then I looked the series up on Wikipedia.
"The first episode was broadcast by the BBC on November 16, 1969 and a further twenty-five episodes were made. The twenty sixth episode was broadcast on November 10, 1972"
Whoops. Tempus fugit indeed. Sod this, I'm off out to menace some teenagers with my zimmer frame.
Oh my, I remember 3-2-1 (well you do at my age, Jurrasic Park was a documentary and the Dead Sea hadn't even rported sick). But the "Clues" at the end! The Enigma Code was nothing compared to them! TTFN :)
@Edwin I suppose I was a bit of an innocent but I recall singing the chrous of the song
"Any old iron? Any old iron? Any, any, any old iron? You look neat. Talk about a treat! You look so dapper from your napper to your feet. Dressed in style, brand-new tile, And your father's old green tie on. But I wouldn't give you tuppence for your old watch and chain, Old iron, old iron."
But isn't Doctor Who for the old folk? Kids only watch it because we force them to.
ReplyDeletePS, I've never seen 123 but even I know who Dusty Bin is.
