The Woods Are Lovely

and not at all dark and actually not that deep*.

front

I know you’re waiting with bated breath for the other four statues/ carvings. That accompany the bastard parakeet carving as mentioned in the post below.

So here they are.

Is it just me or does the Crow one ( or ‘Dark Wings’) look like it’s pecking at the corpse of a child  (it’s supposed to be acorns).

Also I’ve know these woods man and boy for 40 odd years and have never, ever seen a hedgehog, many, many rats, but never a hedgehog.

*Apologies to Robert Frost

UPDATE:18:24

Prompted by Anon in the comments, I took a closer look, no it’s not acorns, possibly some sort of fruit? Or as my brother seems to think, testicles. Which along with the child scenario would also be a diet for crows.

  1. I have never, in all my rural life, seen a crow eating acorns. Pizza, yes. Carrion, yes. Acorns? No. Must be a carrion child.

  2. My bad , not acorns but maybe some sort of fruit? But still not really what crows eat I don't think.

    I'll post some close ups

  3. I think it's an apple. And yes, crows would eat that. But, being carrion crows, what they'd really prefer is roadkill.

Perhaps the woodcarver's talents weren't up to flattened bunny rabbit?

  4. No, not your bad - theirs. Are there really snails of those proportions in the woods? And squirrels who can balance without using their tails? Remarkable.

  5. A lamb eating a walnut? Or a duck with a thyroid problem?
