Yes it the time of year for the Total Politics Blog awards, I went over to vote for a few of the good people who read this blog, I would vote for all, but there weren’t enough spaces.
Apart from the usual media whores, some people do deserve recognition for opening my eyes to stuff and also providing me with a good laugh.
And yet once again when it comes to selecting ‘Categories’ there is not one for English blogs and there are many out there. Yet you can get voted for by just being in Scotland when you write your blog, but not for actually living in England. and writing.

Where for instance would I put the excellent Bexley is Bonkers , very local, very specific, very English. I suppose I could put it in Non-aligned, but I feel it doesn’t do it justice.
Although I suppose given the years of the denigration of Englishness. By that way of thinking any blog that would declare itself English automatically goes into the ‘Right Wing’ category.

Unless its something 'bad', then it's 'English!'.
ReplyDeleteWe are dealing with institutionalised anti-English SCUM!
I've just contacted the Political Blogs Award and received this prompt reply:
ReplyDelete"Thank you for getting in touch about the TP blog awards. As you rightly point out, there is no English category – this isn’t through any conscious choice on our behalf, but purely through only being able to have a limited number of categories on the questionnaire. Please feel free to indicate the blogs you want to designate as English in the ‘other’ box at the bottom and we’ll make sure they’re counted like that"
I replied, asking why if they are going to leave out English they don't also leave out Scottish Welsh and N.Irish!
good for you , I haven't had a reply as yet.
ReplyDeleteI even mentioned in my email that I know they can't categorise everything.
But to me the inclusion of NI, Wales and Scotland and the exclusion of England strikes me as deliberate.
or may be the answer is in he response you got
this isn’t through any conscious choice on our behalf,
England / English is now so thoroughly disparaged it is a sub-conscious choice to exclude it
I told them to shove their Blog Awards! Not very constructive but it made me feel better!
