If you recall back in the mists of the 25th November, we had the following exchange between Judge and Defendant
Judge Roger Chappel warned him of "a substantial custodial sentence".
The teenager asked: "What do you mean by substantial? I don't know that word."
The judge replied: "Long."
I postulated at the time whether;
This will also be another case of a Judge who does not know the meaning of the word ‘long’.
Well, good job I wasn’t taking bets as it turns out the Judges dictionary is indeed different to the rest of the general publics where it comes to the definition of both ‘long’ and ‘substantial’
Kichenside received a sentence of two years and six months for robbery, two years for violent disorder and 16 months for burglary, to run consecutively. He also received a further 16 months, to run concurrently, for a second count of burglary.
Now doing the maths that comes to 5 years 10 months inside. Now you may consider that a long stretch as does the continuing disingenuous MSM which trumpets in the headline.
And it would be if he was to spend that time in prison. But you, me and the desert nomads of Ulan Bator all now know that there is no way he will be ‘locked up for 5 years.”
So how did our miscreant Ryan Kichenside (18) react to this ‘substantial’ sentence considering :
He has ten previous convictions for offences including shoplifting, threatening a witness, assault and possessing an offensive weapon, was under a youth rehabilitation at the time of the offence. [Note: 18 years old]
Well
As he left the dock, he shouted to friends and family: 'I only have to do half, it’s a walk in the park.'
I wonder if the Judge was still in the court and heard that, or more likely he was back in chambers for a large sherry, basking in the glow of a job well done
The British justice system is broken and not fit for purpose

I've never understood the point of concurrent sentencing... Given that scrote wouldn't understand the word anyway, why not be honest and say 'we are letting you off the second count of burglary'?
@Barman
very true , the MSM are also complicit in this and gleefully report "X sentenced to 8 years in jail , then you read the story and it's 2 1/2 + 2 1/2 + 3 to be served concurrently."
So 3 years in actual fact.
Or the one that gets my goat "Gang members sentenced to 16 years in prison" You read the story and it turns out there were four of them and they got 4 years each
concurrent sentences are also part of 'Exceptional Clearance' i.e cough to this, we'll see you don't have to spend any more time inside for it and it gets it off our books and we'll have a word on the other stuff on your behalf.

Yes, that one always annoys me too...
@Julia
case in point in the Newsshopper
headline reads
South London Drug Dealers Sentenced To A Century Behind Bars
Wow really cracking down on the drug dealing scum.
Turns out there were 40 of them for 95 years in total , some will get more , some less, but by my maths that's an average of 2.4 years a piece , half to be served (or less)
Not that harsh after all
Story Here
Seems it is always a good day to bury bad sentencing. Hidden in plain sight.
I think we may be unduly optimistic he will serve half the sentence. I know of one sent down for 9 months at crown court and was out after 2 months. I am not a mathematician, but that doesn't seem like half to me.
Said for years that they should sentence to an earliest possible release date.....but that spoils the fun of SPIN and posturing by Judges.
Don't worry, the experts in our judicial system know what they are doing...just like the experts in the banking sector. Say anything to them and they really can be quite arrogant aswell.....happy days.
Happy Christmas
