I was watching the telly box last night when one of those advertisement thingy's caught my eye featuring this little fellow.

Now to me, because I wasn’t paying that much attention and the sound was off. I initially thought it was an advert for a toilet roll company, why else would you use something that looks like a turd.
But no, it seems this is ‘Zingy’ the mascot for those lovely energy suppliers EDF and is supposed to be a little flame.
I can’t believe in the whole process, nobody said “You know, to me, it kind of looks like a little poo”
Or maybe they just thought. “EDF Energy being portrayed as a little shit. How apt”
Also if I was the South Park boys , I’d be consulting my lawyers just in case there’s money to be made.

That's classic. With the exception of the yellow rather then brown, it does look like a big stinker! Someone in the marketing dept there didn't think this all through.
ReplyDeleteIs that what it's supposed to be? I sort of, like, vaguely assumed it was intended to be a duck — OK, a duck with no wings, beak or feet, but hey what's a little artistic licence between friends?
ReplyDeleteMind you, I tend to half-watch the adverts with the sound muted, too.
It IS a little turd!
ReplyDeleteI must confess, my first thought was that I was looking at the result of the latest 'Apprentice' task.
ReplyDeleteWhat's really funny is that, in answer to public demand, they are to produce 'Zingy' toys - in fact, people are even knitting their own...
I often wonder if people [in the UK] would be so all embracing of these brands if hey had to write their bill payment cheques out to 'Électricité de France'
DeleteOr even Macquarie Bank, Australia (Thames Water) Iberdrola, Spain (Scottish Power) and so on.
To quote from an old Viz book 'Churchill Builders A Name You Can Trust' (That's why we picked it)
The Devils greatest trick was convincing people he didn't exist
Andrew and I have been commenting on this for ages and saying that it was a little poo and wondering what it had to do with energy! Now we know it is a flame! Thank you for enlightening us.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a turd to me too.
ReplyDeleteSo, talking of unintentionally hilarious design... who agrees with me that the Olympic 2012 logo looks like Lisa Simpson making someone very happy?
