Having just got back from the moving picture palace, I thought I would share my views. I grew up reading 2000AD (along with Battle! , Action! and the very short lived Starlord ) So my standard of expectation for this film was pretty high.
It’s good, almost great, this is lot grittier Dredd than the other movie of similar name, set not too far in the future technology wise , so no robots, hover cars, Manta tanks or ABC warriors. I guess due to budget constraints, but some are sure to be disappointed that it doesn’t live up to the Mega City-1 of the comics.
It is, as you would expect very violent, but not over blown, it is after all about Judges doing their job and the 3D is not intrusive and is used well in showing the effects of the drug Slo-Mo.
Karl Urban captures Dredd’s icy control and simmering violence perfectly and no, he doesn’t take the helmet off. Olivia Thirlby does well as the rookie Psi Judge Anderson (although I’m sure Anderson was never a rookie in the comic) and Lena Headey is outstanding as the psychotic Ma-Ma.
There are a couple of plot holes and a bit towards the end that should not be in the movie if it was being 100% true to it’s source, but I’m not going to go all spoilery on you.
All in all as I say it’s a good movie, 2000AD fans will not be disappointed and if not a fan , it’s a good action movie for all that. I would be very happy if they made more, now to wait for the DVD.
Easter Egg: Keep an eye out for the CHOPPER
graffiti tag , made me smile and I am sure there are more in there for all the fan-boi’s

Considering what ‘vibrancy’ usually means when stated by politicians, I don’t think my poor old home town could stand being any more vibrant.
Not content with cows / deer standing in roads trying to cause accidents, even the little ones are having a go now. (although we all remember the German bunny)
There is however a dearth of information , even if you click through that is the full story.
I want to know more , did it fly at him like some kind of furry ‘Alien face hugger’ , I assume it was a grey squirrel , did it disguise itself as a very small speed bump and lie in wait?
But it says ‘a freak cycling collision with a squirrel’ Surely this implies the squirrel was also on a bike, how did it reach the pedals? otherwise wouldn’t it be ‘ a freak collision with a squirrel whilst cycling’.
I need answers, so I can plan my defences.
